Cutting Jack-o-Lanterns

Cutting Jack-o-Lanterns

Today we carved Jack-O-Lanterns
First we used our 5 senses

Then we... got to work!
Miss Mohammed was the one who carved the pumpkin with planned out instructions from each student!

We talked about the Pumpkin
being: Oval, Round, a Pumpkin, hollow was the sound,

We inquired what the seeds tasted like....
Not good...
and it tasted like it smelled...
Pumpkin Smell

We inquired what was inside the seed
A SMALLER SEED!

Students got to take home Pumpkin Guts!

The Little Bears turn!!!

The Runaway Pumpkin!

Before we start reading The Runaway Pumpkin....
Our friends have a few things to share with their friends!

Henry showed the book he was reading.
The Letter 'H'
Our group was so excited they wanted to show their Hands

Tyler also wanted to show his Word Ring!
He knows so many!

And receives stars at the back of his cards once he is able to recognize it easily

Before we started Runaway Pumpkin
we looked at the Little Pumpkins in our room.
We used our senses to describe what our pumpkin looks like!

After reading the book we realized the Baxter family wants to make things out of the Giant Pumpkin!
All our friends today wanted to talk about what they wanted to eat just like the Baxter family .
So we used some of the ideas from the book like:
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin Soup
Pumpkin Bread
.... and we came up with our own list!

Then we decided to draw what we wanted to eat out of The Runaway Pumpkin

Sean wanted to eat Pumpkin Seeds

Tyler wanted to eat pumpkin bread and pie

Brian wanted Pumpkin Cupcakes and cookies

Henry wanted Pumpkin Cupcakes

Lazslo wanted Pumpkin Cookies too!

Using pictures and words is a great visual for students learning the English language
